Lou Lou's Special Needs High Chair arrived this week, she has taken to it very well. The old chair was not designed for an almost four year old and she would often rock across the kitchen in it! This new Breezi Chair is just perfect and she looks very grown up sitting at the table with her brothers.
We had a trip to the hospital today. Mainly because of the awful bowel problems she's been having. I'm having to change a poo'y nappy 4-9 times a day. She had an X-Ray,which confirmed our suspicions of constipation. The registrar told me to up her dose of medication from 2 to 6 sachets at day. As you can see by the photo above she is a very good eater and its not her diet that's causing the constipation its the fact that perhaps due to her sensory processing difficulties she dislikes the feeling of pooing. and constantly tries to 'hold' it in. Of course if we hold it in it can cause all sorts of problems. Unfortunately i cant explain this to her because of her level of understanding.
The second reason for our trip to the hospital is that she needed a blood test, this takes 3 people to hold her down. Before the needles and things go in her arm she is upset because of the people holding her. The blood tests are necessary because she has been eating raw potato peel, orange peel and a bit of play doh. The paediatrician tells me its Pica. But fortunately she hasn't been eating some of the other bizarre things that people with Pica eat.
Check out my new blog - http://halo-rainbow.blogspot.com/ it's purely photos, videos and pictures - as sometimes words aren't needed. You will see how useful the new high chair box is - she loves it!

The chair is very nice. :) I'm going to stop by your other blog.
Dear Halo,
It is informative that blood test is needed to find out what we've eaten. Thank you for sharing. Akmal used to eat what's in his nose, sure he's been scolded. I think he still does it behind my back. Hope Lou Lou enjoys the new chair. Take care.
Love the title to this post!
Blood test are a nightmare arnt they. How long before you get the results?
Will check out your new blog :)
Thanks for popping by xx
Not sure how long it will take for the results to come back Casdok, i will ring the paed in a week or so. xx
Welcome back.
The new chair looks fab. I think a lot of autistic children get digestive problems of one kind or another, Jamie does. We're keeping a food diary at the moment. Hope you get the teat results soon, and then get something sorted.
Good luck with things. My son doesn't have pica, but I know a lot of autistic kids do.
Thank you Claire and Crystal xx
I am in awe of the way you cope Halo. I am sure most of us would find the strength you have if it were called for,it is a thing mothers do,without whingeing or crying out 'why me?' The rewards must be to see each small change, each tiny step, each challenge met with Twinkles beautiful smile.
Good to see you back.
That many pooey nappies and it's constipation! Are you sure you want a solution?
its 'Over Flow' Dotterel...not any better still :(((
Hey!
Been wondering where you were. Pleased things are settling down now.
Urgh! All those nappies. Finally managed to get Olly out of them now - he's 11! The night ones anyway.
