Stress Stress and more Stress

Lou was left to wander from her special school on friday! She was found by the local nursery. Her school were completely aware of the risk Lou has in regard to wandering, the following is from her most recent Statement Of Educational Needs Review:

"****** has more extreme behaviour of trying to escape from her environment. Around the school she is beginning to return to class when instructed but she is no way reliable about this and will run if she thinks she will not be caught or that she has not been seen"

I have a meeting at the school first thing Monday, where i will be insisting she has a 1:1 from now on.

I was up all night Friday. The stress of everything else (i will tell you below) and now this I was sick.

I've spent thousands adapting this house so she doesn't get out.

I had to go to court to try and win the house from my ex husband last month. It didn't amount to anything as he didn't show al his accounts. So more waiting. But I was stunned by two things the judge said..."Will you be putting her in boarding school?" and "What is her life expectancy, as she has bowel problems?" - as you can imagine i was stunned by both questions and wasn't expecting them at all.

After 22 years am not stunned by much these days. But am sad that there is still such a high level of ignorance around.

Our children’s wandering is very frightening, but something else I have learnt – you need to be both proactive as well as reactive. Long term this is much better!!

You need to look at the environment and see what Lou is trying to get away from and maybe teach her other coping strategies. Takes time but is worth it.

Thanks for the comment casdok, i went to the school this morning and am just about to write what happened on the blog. Im no where near satisfied. I also contacted the kent autistic trust and they are going to help me out too.
I dont think in Lous case that she is trying to get away from anything, i think she has just got a very exploring nature to her :(. The local nursery said she seemed very happy (blabbing away to herself) and unaware of the situation that she had got into.xx
